The Lars Larson Show Interviews
Shawn Carney - Is Plan C breaking abortion laws?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A Republican senator is calling for a federal investigation into a group accused of helping ship abortion pills into states where the procedure is restricted. Shawn Carney, President of 40 Days for Life, joins the show to discuss the allegations against Plan C, abortion pill distribution, and whether the Department of Justice should intervene.
Welcome back to the Lawrence Larson Show. So a dark money group is allegedly running abortion pills straight into the states where they are now banned. Should the DOJ shut that operation down? I thought we'd talk about it with Sean Carney, who's president of 40 Days for Life. Sean, welcome back to the program. Can you explain to my audience the intersection between dark money, which we usually associate with political organizations, and sending abortion pills into states where they're banned?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a lot of uh nonprofits, I use that in quotes since we're on radio, uh, they raise money to pay for women to travel uh to go and have abortions or to send abortion pills illegally into states that don't um, you know, allow that. And you can get into a lot of trouble, especially in a place like Texas where I live, because they actually enforce their abortion laws. Uh a lot of these groups are betting on uh the states not enforcing the law if you mail an abortion pill in. Uh but Texas certainly does that. Um they've arrested an abortionist in Houston doing uh illegal abortions. They have a guy who they're charging with capital murder for spiking his girlfriend's uh drink at a bar uh with abortion pills and forcing her to have an abortion. Um so if you enforce the laws, you're highly protected. But unfortunately, a lot of these states uh aren't enforcing the laws to the maximum degree.
SPEAKER_00Well, and in fact, isn't there a specific federal law that's designed to address this kind of thing called the Constock Act? Tell my audience how that works.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. And and this would definitely apply to that, which is you know a federal law that protects commerce, essentially, where you can't do illegal activities. You can't open a casino in in a place that doesn't allow gambling. And it's very similar to these abortion pills. If it truly is back to the states, which is what Dobbs decided when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, then you have to respect these state laws. A lot of these lunatic left groups are saying, well, the hell with that. We're just gonna, you know, send abortion pills in anyways, and um, and and just see where the chips fall. And you know, Texas is suing this. There's a New York abortionist who's been mailing pills in and they're suing them. I mean, Texas is probably the best example of of enforcing the laws. Uh, Georgia does a great job, Tennessee does a great job, Alabama, Louisiana. Um, but this is it's a little bit of the middle finger to the Supreme Court saying, okay, you've returned it back to the states, so we're just gonna break the law.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because they're they're they're creating a de facto national uh, I guess, allowance of abortion, even though the Supreme Court, I think, properly looked at at D Rowe and said, look, there's no right to abortion under the Constitution. It is up to the states. Well, then when the states say, well, then we're gonna make it illegal, like Idaho has done, then how dare these organizations say, well, we're just gonna find a way to work around them. And is there any reason why Todd Blanche and uh and and perhaps even you know the civil rights attorney Harmie Dellon at the DOJ, shouldn't they go after this as well and use the power f the power of the federal DOJ to go after some of these folks?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, that they they absolutely should, just on commerce alone. Imagine if this were stock trading or oil or um any other kind of medicine for that matter, you know. Uh what if you were mailing pot into a state that didn't allow marijuana? I mean, when you compare it to other, you know, regulated industries, banking for crying out loud, um, you know, the the the feds would have, you know, a zero tolerance. But the thing with this that always gets left out because the left is so they've moved off to Pluto is the human heart. And that is the fact that women don't actually want to order an abortion pill through the mail, and abortion pills have the worst word of mouth. It's why last year we saw the the the first time since the overturning of Roe abortion pills decline. They have a terrible word of mouth. It's a miserable experience. They tell you it's like taking a time and all, they tell you it's like, oh, it's just like your menstrual cycle. It's not. It is very painful, it's very brutal. They all say the same thing.
SPEAKER_00And you're going through it alone, right, Sean? You're going through all this largely alone, aren't you?
SPEAKER_01Yes, and we work with these women and they they say the same thing, which is I can't go into the bathroom of my apartment. Um, I can't go into whatever room that was where I passed my baby. And that's obviously a good thing for the pro-life movement that they have a terrible word of mouth, but the left acts like women want to drive and crawl and go to airports and do everything they can to have abortions, like they're just dying to do that. And that's not the case. And even with the travel abortions, those numbers are nowhere near what they predicted they would be when Roe was overturned. And so natural law does have, you know, it's its fair say. And I think we're starting to see that when you look at a lot of the statistics, the numbers are not where they thought they would be as far as male order abortions and and women traveling to get an abortion.
SPEAKER_00You know, I gotta tell you, Sean, back when I was a reporter, because I was a TV and and radio news reporter for a long time, I interviewed a person, I can't, I think it was a young lady, who worked as a a uh uh counselor. I mean, she wasn't a psychiatrist or anything like that, but she worked as a counselor in an abortion clinic. And I said, What do you do? And she said, Well, we sit down with these women before they were going to have a physical abortion, you know, a doctor abortion back in the day, and uh and we talk to them, you know, because we're concerned that they're going to be okay after they've done it. And even then, this wasn't a long, drawn-out series of counseling. It was just a little bit of counseling. Because if you think about it, this in this day and age, if people say, I've been through a traumatic event, car accident, plane accident, uh experience in the military, people easily accept the idea that somebody has gone through a traumatic event and they have things that affect them for the rest of their lives. And then when it comes to abortion, it's as though the left wants to believe, oh yeah, women go down and it's like having a hangnail removed. And you say, no, it's not. And and does anybody ever do any stories or think about, well, what is the effect on this woman's psyche, you know, five years from now, ten years from now? Do they just completely forget that they had to extinguish the life of a baby who was growing inside of them? I suspect that none of them do, which means it that that that experience just sits inside of them. And maybe it does minor damage, maybe it does major damage. But have you ever heard a woman start a conversation and say, oh yeah, I I had an abortion. I mean, I've occasionally had a caller who will say I went through an abortion when I was 20 or 18 or whatever. But most women never talk about it at all. And and when it comes to the pill version, then you're even more doing it on your own.
SPEAKER_01You're 100%. It's even more privatized. You don't feel like you can tell anybody. Nobody else knows. You didn't even, you know, go in to see a doctor in a lot of cases these days. And it's very, very dangerous, and that's why it has a bad word of mouth. And, you know, we've helped 300 abortion workers who have had a change of heart and left their jobs. We've helped them uh leave their jobs. And the ones who have had the chemical abortion said they were working at Planned Parenthood, telling people, don't do the chemical abortion. I did it, you don't want to do it. And that was sort of the epetus of them questioning their job. Is now I'm talking to people out of an abortion because of my horrific experience. And so the chemical abortions, you're 100% right. They have a terrible word of mouth, it's extremely private. The psychological, emotional, spiritual ramifications are are through the roof, and we're just now learning that now because of you know how recent you know what, Sean, I think your phone might be giving up the ghost, but I appreciate you coming on.
